Program Information

All Coaching 101 participants are required to complete an online Orientation prior to attending a four day Coaching 101 training session. There is not a separate registration form for the Orientation. Participants should first choose and register for a Foundations Training Session. After participant select and register for a four day foundations training, they will be notified by email the process for completing the online Orientation. Participants will receive information on the Orientation three to four weeks prior to the foundations training date. The Orientation will be available for participants to access online for a two week period prior to the scheduled foundations sessions. The window of opportunity to complete the online Orientation will close one week before the scheduled foundations training date in order for participants to have an opportunity to complete their application exercise and Individual Coaching Development Plans.

The Orientation is an important opportunity for participants to:

  • Understand foundations of Coaching 101 project goals
  • Recognize and identify elements of effective coaching
  • Engage in coaching conversations
  • Identify personal target goals

The foundations training sessions will be offered in the Lansing and Detroit areas. All coaches admitted for one of the foundations trainings will attend four days of review and assessment of coaching fundamentals. These sessions will focus on the mindset and skillset necessary for building a professional knowledge base for all Michigan Educational Coaches.

DAY 1 ACTIVE LISTENING

Understand active listening as a fundamental coaching tool.

DAY 2 QUESTIONING

Understand the fundamental coaching tools of questioning.

DAY 3 RELATIONAL TRUST/FEEDBACK

Understand how to provide useful feedback in a coaching situation to promote reflection.

DAY 4 ASSESSMENT

Complete the fundamentals of coaching assessment.
